Posted by angelina khan on December 25, 2010 at 11:54 AM

More fantastic news! We now have a grant for our community bee hives project. Thank you very much to Welwyn & Hatfield Borough Council. We will discuss when to proceed at the next green drinks meeting. :D

as i can't make it i'll post something here.

the bees are essential to our survival!!!!

the main problem the bees are facing is the same as all other wild animals. habitat destruction..

THE HEALTH OF THE BEES IS DIRECTLY LINKED TO THEIR FOOD SOURCE!!!
we as a group have the chance to help the bees by several means:

1. DO NOT USE ANY PESTICIDES (weedkillers, insectkillers, antkillers... all chemicals) especially nicotin derived systematic pesticides which really should be outlawed!! watch out for sneeky pesticides like 'vineweavel protection' in compost bags

2. PLANT AS MANY BEEFRIENDLY PLANTS IN YOUR GARDEN

3. AS A GROUP WE CAN ALSO PLANT BEEFRIENDLY PLANTS IN PUBLIC PLACES, like roadsides... wastelands...

4. GIVE BEES A HOME, everybody can put a solidary bee (not honeybee) and bumble bee house in the garden.... as a group we can offer also honeybee refuge.

5. ENCOURAGE AS MANY OTHER PEOPLE TO DO THE SAME!!!! may it be via leaflets, invitation to the group or over a cup of tea with the neighbours/friends/family.

there is more, if i can think of it i will post it.. DD
